Be Still And Know That I Am God
God speaks directly to us in the midst of Psalm 46. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Those words should stand out to you in big bold red letters. This is a direct word from our Heavenly Father and incredible encouragement to us as we boldly run into the year ahead.
Let me encourage you. When you find yourself pressed between your enemy and your obstacle or when you face a foe and don’t know whether to retreat from or run at your rival, hear His word to us. He says, STOP. Be STILL. Quiet yourself and find Him in the moment. Exalt Him and then watch as He turns it around.
In Psalm 91 David writes, “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.” (verses 5-7).
David describes and declares six attributes of God for us:
1. Jesus is OUR HOPE.
This is true hope! Not misplaced trust or wishful thinking! No matter how dark the day has become or how impossible the situation seams, the moment He steps in, it turns around.
2. Jesus is OUR ROCK.
He is the foundation upon which we stand. He is unmovable! He is unchanging! He is unshakable! Therefore we will not falter or fail in any endeavor we do for Him. We stand in victory in every battle and overcome the enemy.
3. Jesus is OUR SALVATION.
True salvation does not come by our best works. It is not found in our ability. It is not limited by our imperfections and failings. Salvation is God and God alone. There is nowhere else to look outside or inside ourself. Look to the God who saves!
4. Jesus is OUR FORTRESS.
When the enemy comes in like a flood, God is our best offense and defense. We can’t be defeated when we are in Him!
5. Jesus is OUR GLORY.
All reward. All honor. Our very identity. Any recognition. It all belongs to Jesus. He is everything. We are nothing. The world will search for fortune and fame and find it all to be fleeting. We have found fullness in Him!
6. Jesus is OUR REFUGE.
He is the place we can run and hide ourself within. He is where we go and hear our soul. When we are hidden in Him, we cannot and will not be shaken.
My friend, I just armed you with the truth you need to be victorious this week. Hold your head high. Stand still in the confidence that comes with trusting in Jesus!
This Sunday we launch into a new series appropriately titled, “Be Still And Know.” I can’t wait to share with you the strength of standing still!
Immeasurably More,
Pastor Daniel
