Day 23 – What Is Successful Evangelism?

“If you love Me, you will keep my commandments” -John 14:15

Sometimes we may wonder what it means to be successful in sharing our faith. Is it about the number of people we convert? Is it about the impact we make, or the precedent we set?
In reality, successful evangelism is not about the outcome of our efforts but rather our obedience to God’s Word and the transformation happening within us as we align ourselves with the character of Christ.

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything He has commanded. The emphasis here is on obedience. Successful evangelism is rooted in our obedience to God’s call to share the message of salvation, regardless of the response we receive. It is about faithfully living out our identity as followers of Christ and allowing His love to compel us to reach others. If we are honest with ourselves, we realize that the call to obedience is actually a call to freedom. We don’t have to figure out what the right thing to do is, He has already told us and He’s faithful to fill in the rest of the details.

True obedience flows from a deep understanding of God’s sovereignty, love, and mercy toward us. When we grasp the magnitude of His grace and the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, our hearts are compelled to obey and share the message of salvation.

Our success in evangelism begins with a heart that reveres Christ as Lord. It is about being prepared to share the reason for our hope with gentleness and respect. Rather than focusing on the result of our interactions, we should prioritize obedience to God’s Word and the growth of Christ’s character within us. When we evangelize, we partner in the expansion of His kingdom, and our faithfulness to that call is what defines our success. When we understand that no one comes to the Father unless the Holy Spirit draws him (John 6:44), we stop battling for results and we start living by the leading of His Spirit.

Challenge: Evaluate your previous ideas of success. Have you focused too much on the results of your interactions? Take time to realign your heart with God’s, trusting that He’ll draw all men to Him in His perfect timing as you love others as Christ loves you.
