Did You Disappear This Week?

This past Sunday I shared a unique insight on the Sabbath.

The first time we see the mention of the Sabbath is in Genesis 2:2-3, “And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.”

The word “rested” is the Hebrew word “sabbath.”

It means to rest, to cease, to be absent, to disappear.

I asked a question last week, “why would a GOD who never tires need to rest?”

We find that answer in Exodus. 31:17, “It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’”

On the sixth day GOD is refreshed.  In the Hebrew, “He breathed in.”

For six days GOD breathed out. He exhaled the work of creation and then on the seventh He stopped and took a deep breath in and was refreshed.

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out? Stressed out? Learn the secret of the sabbath. Take the day off. I like that word disappear in the definition. Go offline. Be unreachable from your work life and allow your mind to truly rest and reset. Stop what you are doing and give yourself fully to the Lord and rest. Take a deep breath!

The Lord gave you the day, blessed it and said be refreshed in it. It is very likely that stress and burden remain because you have not truly taken a Sabbath.

So ask yourself what causes you to breathe in and be refreshed spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. Take a day, disappear and do those things.

My friend, heed the words of your pastor, rest and be refreshed!

Immeasurably More,

Pastor Daniel
