Don’t Diss His Bride

You can talk bad about me, you can talk and bad about my messages, but don’t make the mistake of talking ill abut my wife. I’m a patient man who is slow to anger, but mock, ridicule or disrespect my bride and the patience will run out in an instant as I come to her defense.

I make no apologies.

It’s supposed to be that way. God called me to love, honor and guard my wife in the same manner Christ loves His church. I imagine He is a more fierce defender of His bride than even I am of mine.

Let’s keep that in mind when we talk about the church. The Church is His bride. He gave His life for her and is at work even at this moment to make her even more radiant and glorious. Jesus is coming back for a pure spotless bride. No, the church is not perfect, but she is His. When we mock, ridicule, dishonor or persecute her we diss His bride.

And let us never forget that He is an awesome God. I’m reminded of the old Rich Mullins song that begins with the following verse,

“When He rolls up His sleeves

He ain’t just putting on the ritz

(Our God is an awesome God)

There’s thunder in His footsteps

And lightning in His fists

(Our God is an awesome God)”

That my friend is the defender of the Bride!

This Sunday we turn our attention to what we believe about the church as we continue in our “Roots” series.

Jenna and I are back this weekend and look forward to seeing you!
