The Wind Blows Wherever It Wishes
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes .”
John 3:8 ESV
A move of God will come suddenly but never accidentally. There is both a supernatural sovereign element to revival as well as a very natural responsibility on our part. The Spirit comes and goes as He wishes as He answers to no man. However, that is not to say that we cannot discern the moving of the wind and better position ourselves to experience a move of God.
Let me give you a spiritual framework for positioning yourself for a move of God.
First, begin with honor. Honor always creates an atmosphere. When you honor the Holy Spirit in your home and life you create a spiritual atmosphere where the Spirit of God is welcome. Consequently, when you dishonor, you create an atmosphere that grieves the Spirit. Even Jesus said that the lack of honor in His own hometown prevented Him from doing many miracles (ref).
Next, embrace humility. Humility allows us access to the atmosphere that honor creates. It is the humble and contrite spirit that the Spirit of the Lord cannot despise, while pride is like a stench in the nostrils of our Lord. As John the Baptist reminds us, we must decrease so that He may increase (Mark 6:4).
After humility, bring spiritual hunger to the table. Hunger is the means through which we receive from the Kingdom of God. In fact, everything we receive from the Lord comes by way of hunger. Hunger refuses to be denied. It asks, and keeps asking. It knocks until the door is opened. Hunger is faith in action. The Spirit always responds to hunger.
Once hunger has been awakened, let holiness take hold. Holiness is how we remain in the presence of the Lord. Without holiness no one will see the Lord. Holiness comes not by human effort, but by being touched by the presence of the Lord. It is the result of having been with Him. It transforms us from the inside out making us more and more like Him.
The result of living a life of honor, humility, hunger and holiness is true health. This is what it means to be living in true revival. Fully alive in Him, or as we like to say it, life in all its fullness!
When you see these Kingdom values at work and increasing then you know two things. First, you have found evidence that you are experiencing a true move of the Spirit. Secondly, you’ve found yourself in a favorable position to continue to be carried along by the wind of the Spirit.
My friend, in this season of outpouring, don’t let the wind pass you by. Position yourself and catch the wind.
Immeasurably More,
Pastor Daniel
