There Is a Light in the Darkness

Jenna and I spent Monday night in the dark.  The power in our area went out sometime right around bedtime. I received an alert from the power company saying they expected power to be returned by 4am.  So we turned in that night with no air-conditioning, no fans, no comforts – hey we can rough it for a few hours.  When my alarm went off at 6am, I looked around the room and was surprised we still had no power.

Truth be told, I was tempted to sleep in since it was still dark, and had no way to enjoy a cup of coffee and time in my chair. Then, I heard one of the kids stirring. I stepped out of the bedroom and noticed their side of the house had power.  Apparently, when the power came back on much earlier than predicted, it tripped three breakers on our side of the house. Jenna and I were in the dark, while our kids were just as comfortable as always.

Get this, power had been available all night long, but I didn’t know it.  Light was present, if I had wanted it.  The problem was, I was oblivious to the truth – that light had come, while I was alone in the dark.

Perhaps you feel like this year so much of the light around you has gone out.  I’ve spoken with many who feel lost in the dark.  My friend, I have good news for you, though you may feel lost in the dark, light is still shining all around you.  There is power available if you want it.  You just need to get out of that dark place you’ve isolated yourself in and see that His light is still shining bright.

Let me offer a few opportunities for you to find some light this week:

  • Saturday is a National Day of Prayer.  We will be simulcasting “The Return” from the National Mall in Washington, D.C. from 9am-9pm in the Dome. There will also be a Community Prayer Walk that will take place at 12 noon starting at the Brooksville Common.
  • Sunday, we begin a new series called “October Surprise”. I am excited to share with you a prophetic word that will set the course for the remainder of this year and the decade to come.
  • Our Grace Equip classes have started virtually in homes across the Nature Coast as well as in person in the Dome.  There is still time to sign up
  • Men of Grace are offering a Men’s class that starts Wednesday called “Race and the Gospel”.

This weekend, whether you are joining us live in the Dome or from your home, we still are one church family. Remember, if you will be joining us in the Dome that we are continuing to follow the recommended CDC guidelines. These include:

  • Respect physical distancing.
  • Practice good hygiene.
  • Stay home if you are experiencing flu like symptoms.
  • Wear a mask when you cannot maintain 6 feet distance from another person.
