Where Is Your Awe and Wonder

This past week the Amazon elves dropped off a large box to the front door.  There was no way to hide it from the curious eyes of our two sons.

“What’s that?” Caden asked.

I told him, “It’s one of your Christmas presents.”

“What did you get us?” They both asked with excitement.

My response was, “You’ll have to wait until Christmas morning but I promise you’ll both love it.”

I’m proud of myself as keeping secrets is not a strength of mine.

I love the awe and wonder you see in the eye of a child. Everything about this season invites it; from the tasty treats and the twinkling trees to the anticipation of Christmas morning and a tree full of presents. I expect there will be smiles and laughter in the midst of a mountain of wrapping paper.

Did you know that scripture tells us, “His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23). That means that each and every morning Christ has a great gift waiting for you to discover. In a sense, every day is Christmas day. Every morning presents an opportunity to experience the new creation life Christ promises.

I heard the Lord ask, “Where is your awe?  Where is your wonder?  Who has robbed you of that joy?”

Why do we let time and troubles steal the childlike wonder and anticipation of the great and mighty things that the Lord desires to do within us each and every day? It’s true, the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus said that He came so that we may have life and have it to the full.

My friend, today doesn’t have to look like yesterday. This coming year doesn’t have to look like the previous. This moment doesn’t have to be the same as the last. Each day is a brand new gift and a brand new opportunity to experience His life!

Learn the lesson from our kids. Ask the Lord to restore your joy and then ask Him, “What’s in the box?  What do you have for me today?”

Blessings In This Season,

Pastor
